The Saba Conservation Foundation (SCF) is a nonprofit, non-governmental organization, established in 1987, dedicated to the conservation of the natural and cultural heritage of the Caribbean island of Saba
Experts from Saba and St. Eustatius, from the wider Caribbean, and from the European Netherlands have researched and documented this cultural heritage. On 19 February 2026, they will present their findings at a symposium organized by the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands (RCE) and the Public Entities of Saba and St. Eustatius.
Duikers van de Caribische eilanden nemen deel aan een drie weken durende cursus ‘Onderwater Cultureel Heritage Management’ op Aruba. Het is een opleiding die drie weken duurt en in totaal zijn er 16 duikers die deelnemen, afkomstig van de BES- en CAS-eilanden (Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, Saba, Curaçao, Aruba en Sint Maarten). De cursus richt zich op het behoud van onderwater cultureel erfgoed, zoals scheepswrakken, oude havenstructuren en historische maritieme landschappen.
Op donderdag 6 november 2025 vond de slotconferentie van het project ‘Awa pa Kòrsou’ (Water voor Curaçao) plaats op de University of Curaçao (UoC). Deze conferentie had de vorm van een symposium, waarin verschillende sprekers die betrokken zijn bij het project terugblikten op het proces en hun projectresultaten presenteerden. De intentie van ‘Awa pa Kòrsou’ is om aan de hand van de conclusies en aanbevelingen die zijn opgedaan tijdens de projectperiode, een brug te slaan naar een structureel inclusief waterbeleid voor Curaçao.
In Bonaire zijn er vijf gloednieuwe wandelroutes toegevoegd aan het landschap van Bonaire. De natuurvriendengroep Chantiwawa, onderdeel van Fundashon Históriko Kultural Boneriano (FuHiKuBo) heeft deze routes uitgezet onder leiding van Bòi Antoin.

In ‘Curaçaose vertellingen: Max Diemont, de veearts die Jan Kock herbouwde’, wordt het levensverhaal van Max Diemont tot leven gebracht. Een Nederlandse veearts die in de twintigste eeuw zijn sporen naliet op Curaçao. Wat begon als een missie om het welzijn van dieren op het eiland te verbeteren, groeide uit tot een diepgewortelde betrokkenheid bij het landschap, de gemeenschap en de geschiedenis van Curaçao. Diemont staat vooral bekend om zijn restauratie van Landhuis Jan Kock, dat hij niet alleen in oude glorie herstelde, maar ook transformeerde tot een cultureel centrum.

Het afgelegen Caribische eiland Saba wordt liefkozend ‘de onbedorven koningin’ genoemd, vanwege het onaangetaste karakter van haar natuurlijke omgeving. Vier eeuwen geleden vestigden Europese kolonisten uit Zeeland (Nederland) en de Britse Eilanden zich op het eiland en veranderden het gedeeltelijk in een cultuurlandschap met een opvallend karakter en een inheemse architectuur die het waard is om goed beschermd te worden.

Since 2003, the Sea & Learn Foundation is a not-for-profit organization on the Caribbean island of Saba, bringing together the local community and visitors to understand the value of preserving and protecting our natural environment and cultural heritage, by empowering the stakeholders of today and the activists of tomorrow. The foundation’s inception stems from its month-long environmental awareness program aptly named Sea & Learn. The target group of the foundation encompasses a “K through grey” mentality (an inclusive approach that targets people of all ages, from kindergarten through older adults or seniors) to include Saba residents, local businesses, and visiting tourists of all ages.
