In 1973 werd in het miniatuurpark Madurodam in Den Haag een maquette van Willemstad onthuld door Koningin Juliana. Jarenlang gingen Antillianen naar Madurodam om hun Willemstad te zien. Ook Maduro, de naamgever van het miniatuurpark, moet postuum trots zijn geweest dat zijn geboortestad in het park vertegenwoordigd was. Maar in 1991 verdween de maquette en verscheen hij ineens op Antilliaanse feestjes. Vervolgens reisde de maquette via zolders en kinderkamers zelfs af naar Curaçao.
