Museo di Tambú Shon Cola / The Tambú Museum Shon Cola

Description

The Museo di Tambú Shon Cola is a cultural space dedicated to the history, tradition, and living heritage of tambú on Curaçao. Named after Shon Cola, one of the island’s most respected tambú masters, the museum preserves and shares the rhythms, instruments, stories, and social significance of this Afro-Curaçaoan musical form. Through exhibitions, community programs, and live demonstrations, the museum highlights tambú as both a historical expression of resilience and a vibrant contemporary cultural practice. It serves as a place of education, remembrance, and celebration, keeping the spirit and knowledge of tambú alive for future generations.

Museo di Tambú Shon Cola, the Tambú Museum, was founded on the 12th of December 2021 by the Stripan Foundation, presided by Mr. dr. René Rosalia. He led a committee of culturalists to realize it. The contents of the museum come from the scientific study of Mr. dr. René Rosalia titled in Dutch “De legale en kerkelijke repressie van afrokulturele volksuitingen” [1996] and the Papiamentu version titled ”Represhon di kultura”/“E lucha di tambú”.

The Tambú Museum Shon Cola is a guided museum that revives the history and customs displayed.
