In August 2021, Stéphie Gumbs interviewed people who grew up on the island of St.Martin right before the arrival of pipe water, electricity and tourism. They talked about many subjects through which we discover pieces of an authentic Caribbean people.
‘The way we see our world today is partly influenced by how we see yesterday. Sharing a common vision of the past, or at least some elements, gives us common ground. The lessons of the past can inspire your vision of the future.’
In the ‘Back Then: Stories of the St. Martin of Yesterday’ podcast, you will hear mostly brothers and sisters talking about their childhood in their neighbourhoods, mainly in the 60’s and 70’s. Stéphie asked open questions on different topics and each epidode will feature their answers on one topic. These interviews are conducted in the interviewees family environment.
