Stichting voor Kunst en Cultuur van Bonaire richt zich op het promoten en behouden van de kunst, muziek en het culturele erfgoed van Bonaire. De stichting speelt een belangrijke rol in educatie en training door onder andere zang- en muzieklessen aan te bieden voor kinderen van 8 tot 14 jaar bij het Sentro Tuturutu. Daarnaast organiseert de stichting culturele evenementen, zoals DuoFest, dat lokale zangers en componisten in de schijnwerpers zet. Een ander belangrijk doel is het beheren en renoveren van Museo Chich’i Tan in Rincon, waar maandelijks evenementen worden gehouden ter ere van Bonaireaanse artiesten. De stichting bevordert ook culturele uitwisseling, bijvoorbeeld met Nederland tijdens Bonaire’s Vlaggendag.
The Bonaire Art & Culture Foundation promotes and preserves Bonaire’s art, music, and cultural heritage. The foundation plays an important role in education and training by offering singing and music lessons for children aged 8 to 14 at the Sentro Tuturutu. In addition, the foundation organizes cultural events such as DuoFest, which highlights local singers and composers. Another key goal is managing and renovating Museo Chich’i Tan in Rincon, where monthly events are held to honor Bonairean artists. The foundation also fosters cultural exchange, for example, with the Netherlands during Bonaire’s Flag Day.
‘St. Maarten 1980 Carnival Travel Film’ is a 6-minute film that provides an impression of St. Maarten’s Carnival in 1980. The film features video imagery of the parade, musical instruments, and people dancing. It was transferred from 8mm footage, hence the vintage imagery.

National Archaeological Anthropological Memory Management Foundation – Stichting NAAM – Curaçao is een nonprofit organisatie die zich committeert aan de conservering en identificatie van het materiële en immateriële erfgoed van Bonaire, Curaçao, St. Maarten, St. Eustatius en Saba in een Caribisch perspectief.
NAAM is in 1998 opgericht door de Landsoverheid van de voormalige Nederlandse Antillen, als opvolger van het voormalige AAINA (Archaeologisch- Anthropologisch Instituut Nederlandse Antillen).
Door zichzelf te profileren als “meer dan een museum”, heeft NAAM zich in de loop van de tijd kunnen ontwikkelen tot een instituut dat zich breed inzet voor het documenteren, restaureren en verrijken van het culturele geheugen van onze bevolking. Dit is waarom de M van NAAM niet langer staat voor “Museum” maar voor “Memory Management”.

The National Archives of Aruba (ANA) is the government department responsible for storing, safeguarding, and protecting government archives that have historical value for Aruba. In addition to government archives, ANA also has a collection of archives from various institutions and private individuals. In the collection of archives at the National Archives of Aruba, there is original and authentic material stored. The material includes documents, maps, photographs, and audio-visual material that together form the “national memory and cultural heritage” of our country.

This book is published on the occasion of the Exhibition Herencia di Sclavitud/ The Heritage of Slavery (2008). In order to realize the exhibition, this publication and the other projects on the topic of slavery in Aruba, representatives of the Aruban National Archives, the National Library, the Department of Culture, the Aruba Teacher Training College, and mrs. Yolanda Richardson have joined forces in the Foundation Heritage of Slavery Aruba. This publication is the final activity of that foundation.
The works of art, paintings as well as poems, in this edition were an integral and essential part of the exhibition. They are reproduced in this book with permission of the artists and owners.
